Cupid’s Guide to Fitness: Keeping the Romance Alive in Your Exercise Routine!

As we approach Valentine’s day, I thought I’d highlight some similarities between a romantic relationships and the relationship with exercise.

When you first fall in love, everything feels fresh and exciting. You revel in each other’s company, and time together flies by. However, as with any romance, the initial spark may dim. You might need to put more effort into the relationship. While your feelings remain strong, you recognize the need to navigate the less thrilling aspects of love, like your partner’s snoring or laundry habits (not that I’m speaking from personal experience, of course).

Yet, despite the inevitable slowing down of the relationship’s pace, it doesn’t mean things are stagnant or dull. Adding occasional romantic gestures or planning special dates can reignite the spark.

Now, let’s apply this to your exercise routine.

Starting a new workout regimen feels exhilarating, akin to the excitement of a budding romance. You witness rapid progress, which motivates you to keep pushing forward. However, after a month or two of consistent training, progress slows, and the routine becomes mundane. You might throw in the towel, even though you know sticking with it is beneficial in the long run—similar to a relationship you cherish.

Instead of giving up, consider spicing things up, both in your workouts and your love life. Just as you wouldn’t abandon a valuable relationship, don’t abandon your fitness journey. Change your exercise routine, whether it’s trying a new workout, adding variety, or seeking professional guidance.

Remember, progress in both fitness and relationships isn’t always linear. There will be difficulties, but to keep moving forward, you must find a balance between comfort and complacency.
